To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgivenesses, because we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by following his laws which he set before us. Daniel 9:9, 10

Confession of Sin [+][-]

Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear this holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation. And so that we may prepare ourselves in heart and mind to worship him, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.

Silence may be kept.

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

The Almighty and merciful Lord grant us absolution and remission of all our sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to set forth his praise, to hear his holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation. And so that we may prepare ourselves in heart and mind to worship him, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.

Silence may be kept.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

The Psalm or Psalms Appointed

Psalm 95 Venite, exultemus

O come let us worship and fall down and kneel before the LORD our Maker, for he is the LORD our God.

O COME, let us sing unto the LORD; *
let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; *
and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.
For the LORD is a great God; *
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are all the corners of the earth; *
and the strength of the hills is his also.
The sea is his, and he made it; *
and his hands pre-pared the dry land.
O come, let us worship and fall down, *
and kneel before the LORD our Maker.
For he is the Lord our God; *
and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
To-day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts *
      as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness;
When your fathers tempted me, *
proved me, and saw my works.
10    Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, *
It is a people that do err in their hearts, for they have not known my ways:
11    Unto whom I sware in my wrath, *
that they should not enter into my rest.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O come let us worship and fall down and kneel before the LORD our Maker, for he is the LORD our God.

Psalm 96 Cantate Domino

Glory and worship are before him.

O SING unto the LORD a new song; *
sing unto the LORD, all the whole earth.
Sing unto the LORD, and praise his Name; *
be telling of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his honour unto the heathen, *
and his wonders unto all peoples.
For the LORD is great, and cannot worthily be praised;*
he is more to be feared than all gods.
As for all the gods of the heathen, they are but idols; *
but it is the LORD that made the heavens.
Glory and worship are before him; *
power and honour are in his sanctuary.
Ascribe unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the peoples, *
ascribe unto the LORD worship and power.
Ascribe unto the LORD the honour due unto his Name; *
bring presents, and come into his courts.
O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; *
let the whole earth stand in awe of him.
10    Tell it out among the heathen, that the LORD is King, and that it is he who hath made the round world so fast that it cannot be moved; *
and how that he shall judge the peoples righteously.
11    Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; *
let the sea make a noise, and all that therein is.
12    Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it; *
then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the LORD.
13    For he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth; *
and with righteousness to judge the world, and the peoples with his truth.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Glory and worship are before him.

Psalm 97 Dominus regnavit

O ye that love the LORD see that ye hate the thing which is evil; the LORD preserveth the souls of his saints; he shall deliver them from the hand of the ungodly.

THE LORD is King, the earth may be glad thereof; *
yea, the multitude of the isles may be glad thereof.
Clouds and darkness are round about him: *
righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his seat.
There shall go a fire before him, *
and burn up his enemies on every side.
His lightnings gave shine unto the world: *
the earth saw it, and was afraid.
The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD; *
at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
The heavens have declared his righteousness, *
and all the peoples have seen his glory.
Confounded be all they that worship carved images, and that delight in vain gods: *
      worship him, all ye gods.
Sion heard of it, and rejoiced; and the daughters of Judah were glad, *
because of thy judgments, O LORD.
For thou, LORD, art higher than all that are in the earth: *
thou art exalted far above all gods.
10    O ye that love the LORD, see that ye hate the thing which is evil: *
the Lord preserveth the souls of his saints; he shall deliver them from the hand of the ungodly.
11    There is sprung up a light for the righteous, *
and joyful gladness for such as are true-hearted.
12    Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; *
and give thanks for a remembrance of his holiness.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O ye that love the LORD see that ye hate the thing which is evil; the LORD preserveth the souls of his saints; he shall deliver them from the hand of the ungodly.

Psalm 95 Venite, exultemus

O come let us worship and fall down and kneel before the LORD our Maker, for he is the LORD our God.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, and kneel before the LORD our Maker, for he is our God.

Come, let us sing to the LORD; *
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the LORD is a great God, *
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth, *
and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it, *
and his hands have molded the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, *
and kneel before the LORD our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. *
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!
Harden not your hearts, as your forebears did in the wilderness, *
at Meribah, and on that day at Massah, when they tempted me.
They put me to the test, *
though they had seen my works.
10   Forty years long I detested that generation and said, *
This people are wayward in their hearts; they do not know my ways."
11   So I swore in my wrath, *
"They shall not enter into my rest."

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:*
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

O come let us worship and fall down and kneel before the LORD our Maker, for he is the LORD our God.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, and kneel before the LORD our Maker, for he is our God.

Sing to the LORD and bless his Name; *
proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations *
and his wonders among all peoples.
For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; *
he is more to be feared than all gods.
As for all the gods of the nations, they are but idols; *
but it is the LORD who made the heavens.
Oh, the majesty and magnificence of his presence! *
Oh, the power and the splendor of his sanctuary!
Ascribe to the LORD, you families of the peoples; *
ascribe to the LORD honor and power.
Ascribe to the LORD the honor due his Name; *
bring offerings and come into his courts.
Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; *
let the whole earth tremble before him.
10   Tell it out among the nations: "The LORD is King! *

when he comes to judge the earth.
13   He will judge the world with righteousness *
and the peoples with his truth.

The LORD is King; let the earth rejoice; *
let the multitude of the isles be glad.
Clouds and darkness are round about him, *
righteousness and justice are the foundations of his throne.
A fire goes before him *
and burns up his enemies on every side.
His lightnings light up the world; *
the earth sees it and is afraid.
The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, *

The LORD loves those who hate evil; he preserves the lives of his saints and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

Psalm 69 Salvum me fac

Hear me O LORD for thy loving-kindness is comfortable; turn thee unto me according to the multitude of thy mercies.

  SAVE me, O God; *
for the waters are come in, even unto my soul.
I stick fast in the deep mire, where no ground is; *
I am come into deep waters, so that the floods run over me.
I am weary of crying; my throat is dry; *
my sight faileth me for waiting so long upon my God.
They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; *
they that are mine enemies, and would destroy me guiltless, are mighty.
I paid them the things that I never took: *
God, thou knowest my simpleness, and my faults are not hid from thee.
Let not them that trust in thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my cause; *
let not those that seek thee be confounded through me, O Lord God of Israel.
And why? for thy sake have I suffered reproof; *
      shame hath covered my face.
I am become a stranger unto my brethren, *
even an alien unto my mother's children.
For the zeal of thine house hath even eaten me; *
and the rebukes of them that rebuked thee are fallen upon me.
10    I wept, and chastened myself with fasting, *
and that was turned to my reproof.
11    I put on sackcloth also, *
      and they jested upon me.
12    They that sit in the gate speak against me, *
and the drunkards make songs upon me.
13    But, LORD, I make my prayer unto thee *
      in an acceptable time.
14    Hear me, O God, in the multitude of thy mercy, *
even in the truth of thy salvation.
15    Take me out of the mire, that I sink not; *
O let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.
16    Let not the water-flood drown me, neither let the deep swallow me up; *
and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
17    Hear me, O LORD, for thy loving-kindness is comfortable; *
turn thee unto me according to the multitude of thy mercies.
18    And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: *
O haste thee, and hear me.
19    Draw nigh unto my soul, and save it; *
O deliver me, because of mine enemies.
20    Thou hast known my reproach, my shame, and my dishonour: *
mine adversaries are all in thy sight.
21    Reproach hath broken my heart; I am full of heaviness: *
I looked for some to have pity on me, but there was no man, neither found I any to comfort me.
22    They gave me gall to eat; *
and when I was thirsty they gave me vinegar to drink.
23    Let their table be made a snare to take themselves withal; *
and let the things that should have been for their wealth be unto them an occasion of falling.
24    Let their eyes be blinded, that they see not; *
and ever bow thou down their backs.
25    Pour out thine indignation upon them, *
and let thy wrathful displeasure take hold of them.
26    Let their habitation be void, *
and no man to dwell in their tents.
27    For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; *
and they talk how they may vex them whom thou hast wounded.
28    Let them fall from one wickedness to another, *
and not come into thy righteousness.
29    Let them be wiped out of the book of the living, *
and not be written among the righteous.
30    As for me, when I am poor and in heaviness, *
thy help, O God, shall lift me up.
31    I will praise the Name of God with a song, *
      and magnify it with thanksgiving.
32    This also shall please the LORD *
better than a bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
33    The humble shall consider this, and be glad: *
seek ye after God, and your soul shall live.
34    For the LORD heareth the poor, *
      and despiseth not his prisoners.
35    Let heaven and earth praise him: *
the sea, and all that moveth therein.
36    For God will save Sion, and build the cities of Judah, *
that men may dwell there, and have it in possession.
37    The posterity also of his servants shall inherit it; *
and they that love his Name shall dwell therein.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Hear me O LORD for thy loving-kindness is comfortable; turn thee unto me according to the multitude of thy mercies.

Psalm 69 Salvum me fac

Answer me, O LORD, for your love is kind; in your great compassion, turn to me.

  Save me, O God, *
for the waters have risen up to my neck.
I am sinking in deep mire, *
and there is no firm ground for my feet.
I have come into deep waters, *
and the torrent washes over me.
I have grown weary with my crying; my throat is inflamed; *
my eyes have failed from looking for my God.
Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; my lying foes who would destroy me are mighty. *
Must I then give back what I never stole?
O God, you know my foolishness, *
and my faults are not hidden from you.
Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, Lord GOD of hosts; *
let not those who seek you be disgraced because of me, O God of Israel.
Surely, for your sake have I suffered reproach, *
and shame has covered my face.
I have become a stranger to my own kindred, *
an alien to my mother's children.
10   Zeal for your house has eaten me up; *
the scorn of those who scorn you has fallen upon me.
11   I humbled myself with fasting, *
but that was turned to my reproach.
12   I put on sack-cloth also, *
and became a byword among them.
13   Those who sit at the gate murmur against me, *
and the drunkards make songs about me.
14   But as for me, this is my prayer to you, *
at the time you have set, O LORD:
15   In your great mercy, O God, *
answer me with your unfailing help.
16   Save me from the mire; do not let me sink; *
let me be rescued from those who hate me and out of the deep waters.
17   Let not the torrent of waters wash over me, neither let the deep swallow me up; *
do not let the Pit shut its mouth upon me.
18   Answer me, O LORD, for your love is kind; *
in your great compassion, turn to me."
19   Hide not your face from your servant; *
be swift and answer me, for I am in distress.
20   Draw near to me and redeem me; *
because of my enemies deliver me.
21   You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor; *
my adversaries are all in your sight."
22   Reproach has broken my heart, and it cannot be healed; *
I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I could find no one.
23   They gave me gall to eat, *
and when I was thirsty, they gave me vinegar to drink.
24   Let the table before them be a trap *
and their sacred feasts a snare.
25   Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, *
and give them continual trembling in their loins.
26   Pour out your indignation upon them, *
and let the fierceness of your anger overtake them.
27   Let their camp be desolate, *
and let there be none to dwell in their tents.
28   For they persecute him whom you have stricken *
and add to the pain of those whom you have pierced.
29   Lay to their charge guilt upon guilt, *
and let them not receive your vindication.
30   Let them be wiped out of the book of the living *
and not be written among the righteous.
31   As for me, I am afflicted and in pain; *
your help, O God, will lift me up on high.
32   I will praise the Name of God in song; *
I will proclaim his greatness with thanksgiving.
33   This will please the LORD more than an offering of oxen, *
more than bullocks with horns and hoofs.
34   The afflicted shall see and be glad; *
you who seek God, your heart shall live.
35   For the LORD listens to the needy, *
and his prisoners he does not despise.
36   Let the heavens and the earth praise him, *
      the seas and all that moves in them;
37   For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah; *
they shall live there and have it in possession.
38   The children of his servants will inherit it, *
and those who love his Name will dwell therein.

Amen.

Answer me, O LORD, for your love is kind; in your great compassion, turn to me.

The Lessons

A Reading from Exodus 1:6-22

And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor: And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigor. And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses. And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

Then Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation. But the descendants of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; so that the land was filled with them. Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, "Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war befall us, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land." Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens; and they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and Ra-am'ses. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. So they made the people of Israel serve with rigor, and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field; in all their work they made them serve with rigor. Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiph'rah and the other Pu'ah, "When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, she shall live." But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. So the king of Egypt called the midwives, and said to them, "Why have you done this, and let the male children live?" The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and are delivered before the midwife comes to them." So God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and grew very strong. And because the midwives feared God he gave them families. Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, "Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live."

Then Joseph died, and all his brothers, and that whole generation. But the Israelites were fruitful and prolific; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them. Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. He said to his people, "Look, the Israelite people are more numerous and more powerful than we. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, or they will increase and, in the event of war, join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land." Therefore they set taskmasters over them to oppress them with forced labor. They built supply cities, Pithom and Rameses, for Pharaoh. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread, so that the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites. The Egyptians became ruthless in imposing tasks on the Israelites, and made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and brick and in every kind of field labor. They were ruthless in all the tasks that they imposed on them. The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, "When you act as midwives to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstool, if it is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, she shall live." But the midwives feared God; they did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but they let the boys live. So the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this, and allowed the boys to live?" The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them." So God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and became very strong. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, "Every boy that is born to the Hebrews you shall throw into the Nile, but you shall let every girl live."

The Song of Moses Cantemus Domino
Exodus 15:1-6, 11-13, 17-18

I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; *
the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and song; *
and he is become my salvation:
He is my God and I will prepare him an habitation; *
my father's God and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a man of war; *
the Lord is his Name.
Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea; *
his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.
The depths have covered them; *
they sank into the bottom as a stone.
Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: *
thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.
Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? *
who is like thee, glorious in holiness,
fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Thou stretchedst out thy right hand; *
the earth swallowed them.
Thou in thy mercy led forth the people
which thou hast redeemed; *
thou hast guided them in thy strength
unto thy holy habitation.
Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them *
in the mountain of thine inheritance,
In the place, O Lord, which thou hast
made for thee to dwell in; *
in the sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.
The Lord shall reign *
for ever and for ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Song of Moses Cantemus Domino
Exodus 15:1-6, 11-13, 17-18

The Lord is my strength and my refuge; *
the Lord has become my Savior.
This is my God and I will praise him, *
the God of my people and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a mighty warrior; *
Yahweh is his Name.
The chariots of Pharoah and his army has he hurled into the sea; *
the finest of those who bear armor have been
drowned in the Red Sea.
The fathomless deep has overwhelmed them; *
they sank into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in might; *
your right hand, O Lord, has overthrown the enemy.
Who can be compared with you, O Lord, among the gods? *
who is like you, glorious in holiness,
awesome in renown, and worker of wonders?
You stretched forth your right hand; *
the earth swallowed them up.
With your constant love you led the people you redeemed; *
with your might you brought them in safety to
your holy dwelling.
You will bring them in and plant them *
on the mount of your possession,
The resting-place you have made for yourself, O Lord, *
the sanctuary, O Lord, that your hand has established.

A Reading from 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked. That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body -- Jews or Greeks, slaves or free -- and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the organs in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single organ, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you," nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." On the contrary, the parts of the body which seem to be weaker are indispensable, and those parts of the body which we think less honorable we invest with the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving the greater honor to the inferior part, that there may be no discord in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body-- Jews or Greeks, slaves or free-- and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot would say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear would say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many members, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you," nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." On the contrary, the members of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and those members of the body that we think less honorable we clothe with greater honor, and our less respectable members are treated with greater respect; whereas our more respectable members do not need this. But God has so arranged the body, giving the greater honor to the inferior member, that there may be no dissension within the body, but the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it.

The Song of the Redeemed Magna et mirabilia
Revelation 15:3-4

Great and marvellous are thy works, *
Lord God Almighty!
Just and true are thy ways, *
Thou King of saints.

Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy Name? *
For thou only art holy
For all nations shall come and worship before thee; *
for thy judgments are made manifest.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Song of the Redeemed Magna et mirabilia
Revelation 15:3-4

O ruler of the universe, Lord God,
great deeds are they that you have done, *
surpassing human understanding.
Your ways are ways of righteousness and truth, *
O King of all the ages.

Who can fail to do you homage, Lord,
and sing the praises of your Name? *
for you only are the Holy One.
All nations will draw near and fall down before you, *
because your just and holy works have been revealed.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:*
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

The Song of Zechariah Benedictus Dominus Deus
Luke 1:68-79

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, *
for he hath visited and redeemed his people;
And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us *
in the house of his servant David,
As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, *
which have been since the world began:
That we should be saved from our enemies, *
and from the hand of all that hate us;
To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, *
and to remember his holy covenant;
To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham, *
that he would give us,
That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies *
might serve him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before him, *
all the days of our life.

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest, *
for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord
to prepare his ways;
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people *
for the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God, *
whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us;
To give light to them that sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Song of Zechariah Benedictus Dominus Deus
Luke 1: 68-79

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, *
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the
shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:*
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

For All Sorts and Conditions [A form of general intercession] [+][-]

O God, the creator and preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldest be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for thy holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to thy fatherly goodness all those who are in any ways afflicted or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; [especially those for whom our prayers are desired]; that it may please thee to comfort and relieve them according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

A Prayer of St. Chrysostom [+][-]

Almighty God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication unto thee, and hast promised through thy well beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name thou wilt be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.

Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Grant, O merciful God, to our weak natures Thy protection, that we who commemorate the holy Mother of God may, by the help of her intercession, arise from our iniquities. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. May the divine help remain with us always.
R. And with our absent brothers and sisters. Amen.

Ave Regina Caelorum

Queen of the heavens, we hail you, hail you Mother of our Redeemer;
you the dawn, the door of morning, whence the world's true Light has risen:
joy to you, O Virgin glorious, beautiful beyond all others,
hail and all hail, O most gracious, intercede for us always to Jesus.

V. May your prayers, O holy Virgin, defend us.
R. As we contend with the powers of evil.

Let us pray:
Grant us, O merciful God, protection in our weakness, that we who celebrate the memory of the holy Mother of God may, with the aid of her intercession, triumph over our foes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. May the divine help remain with us always.
R. And with our absent brothers and sisters. Amen.
