Confession of Sin [+][-]

Dear friends in Christ, here in the presence of Almighty God, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, so that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.

Silence may be kept.

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

The Almighty and merciful Lord grant us absolution and remission of all our sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear friends in Christ, here in the presence of Almighty God, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.

Silence may be kept.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

The Psalm or Psalms Appointed

Psalm 18 Part I Diligam te, Domine.

I will love thee, O LORD my strength.

I WILL love thee, O LORD, my strength. *
      The LORD is my stony rock, and my defence;
My Saviour, my God, and my might, in whom I will trust; *
my buckler, the horn also of my salvation, and my refuge.
I will call upon the LORD, which is worthy to be praised; *
so shall I be safe from mine enemies.
The sorrows of death compassed me, *
and the overflowings of ungodliness made me afraid.
The pains of hell came about me; *
the snares of death overtook me.
In my trouble I called upon the LORD, *
      and complained unto my God:
So he heard my voice out of his holy temple, *
and my complaint came before him; it entered even into his ears.
The earth trembled and quaked, *
the very foundations also of the hills shook, and were removed, because he was wroth.
There went a smoke out in his presence, *
and a consuming fire out of his mouth, so that coals were kindled at it.
10    He bowed the heavens also, and came down, *
and it was dark under his feet.
11    He rode upon the Cherubim, and did fly; *
he came flying upon the wings of the wind.
12    He made darkness his secret place, *
his pavilion round about him with dark water, and thick clouds to cover him.
13    At the brightness of his presence his clouds removed; *
      hailstones and coals of fire.
14    The LORD also thundered out of heaven, and the Highest gave his thunder; *
      hailstones and coals of fire.
15    He sent out his arrows, and scattered them; *
he cast forth lightnings, and destroyed them.
16    The springs of waters were seen, and the foundations of the round world were discovered, *
at thy chiding, O LORD, at the blasting of the breath of thy displeasure.
17    He sent down from on high to fetch me, *
and took me out of many waters.
18    He delivered me from my strongest enemy, and from them which hate me; *
for they were too mighty for me.
19    They came upon me in the day of my trouble; *
but the LORD was my upholder.
20    He brought me forth also into a place of liberty; *
he brought me forth, even because he had a favour unto me.
21    The LORD rewarded me after my righteous dealing, *
according to the cleanness of my hands did he recompense me.
22    Because I have kept the ways of the LORD, *
and have not forsaken my God, as the wicked doth.
23    For I have an eye unto all his laws, *
and will not cast out his commandments from me.
24    I was also uncorrupt before him, *
      and eschewed mine own wickedness.
25    Therefore the LORD rewarded me after my righteous dealing, *
and according unto the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
26    With the holy thou shalt be holy, *
and with a perfect man thou shalt be perfect.
27    With the clean thou shalt be clean, *
and with the froward thou shalt be froward.
28    For thou shalt save the people that are in adversity, *
and shalt bring down the high looks of the proud.
29    Thou also shalt light my candle; *
the LORD my God shall make my darkness to be light.
30    For in thee I shall discomfit an host of men, *
and with the help of my God I shall leap over the wall.
31    The way of God is an undefiled way: *
the word of the LORD also is tried in the fire; he is the defender of all them that put their trust in him.
32    For who is God, but the LORD? *
or who hath any strength, except our God?
33    It is God that girdeth me with strength of war, *
      and maketh my way perfect.
34    He maketh my feet like harts' feet, *
and setteth me up on high.
35    He teacheth mine hands to fight, *
and mine arms shall bend even a bow of steel.
36    Thou hast given me the defence of thy salvation; *
thy right hand also shall hold me up, and thy loving correction shall make me great.
37    Thou shalt make room enough under me for to go, *
that my footsteps shall not slide.
38    I will follow upon mine enemies, and overtake them; *
neither will I turn again till I have destroyed them.
39    I will smite them, that they shall not be able to stand, *
      but fall under my feet.
40    Thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle; *
thou shalt throw down mine enemies under me.
41    Thou hast made mine enemies also to turn their backs upon me, *
and I shall destroy them that hate me.
42    They shall cry, but there shall be none to help them; *
yea, even unto the LORD shall they cry, but he shall not hear them.
43    I will beat them as small as the dust before the wind: *
I will cast them out as the clay in the streets.
44    Thou shalt deliver me from the strivings of the people, *
and thou shalt make me the head of the nations; a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
45    As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me; *
the strangers shall feign obedience unto me.
46    The strangers shall fail, *
and come trembling out of their strongholds.
47    The LORD liveth; and blessed be my strong helper, *
      and praised be the God of my salvation;
48    Even the God that seeth that I be avenged, *
and subdueth the people unto me.
49    It is he that delivereth me from my cruel enemies, and setteth me up above mine adversaries: *
thou shalt rid me from the wicked man.
50    For this cause will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the Gentiles, *
and sing praises unto thy Name.
51    Great prosperity giveth he unto his King, *
and showeth loving-kindness unto David his anointed, and unto his seed for evermore.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

I will love thee, O LORD my strength.

Psalm 18 Part I Diligam te, Domine.

I will love thee, O LORD my strength.

I love you, O LORD my strength.

I love you, O LORD my strength, *
O LORD my stronghold, my crag, and my haven.
My God, my rock in whom I put my trust, *
my shield, the horn of my salvation, and my refuge; you are worthy of praise.
I will call upon the LORD, *
and so shall I be saved from my enemies.
The breakers of death rolled over me, *
and the torrents of oblivion made me afraid.
The cords of hell entangled me, *
and the snares of death were set for me.
I called upon the LORD in my distress *
and cried out to my God for help.
He heard my voice from his heavenly dwelling; *
my cry of anguish came to his ears.
The earth reeled and rocked; *
the roots of the mountains shook; they reeled because of his anger.
Smoke rose from his nostrils and a consuming fire out of his mouth; *
hot burning coals blazed forth from him.
10   He parted the heavens and came down *
with a storm cloud under his feet.
11   He mounted on cherubim and flew; *
he swooped on the wings of the wind.
12   He wrapped darkness about him; *
he made dark waters and thick clouds his pavilion.
13   From the brightness of his presence, through the clouds, *
burst hailstones and coals of fire.
14   The LORD thundered out of heaven; *
the Most High uttered his voice.
15   He loosed his arrows and scattered them; *
he hurled thunderbolts and routed them.
16   The beds of the seas were uncovered, and the foundations of the world laid bare, *
at your battle cry, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
17   He reached down from on high and grasped me; *
he drew me out of great waters.
18   He delivered me from my strong enemies and from those who hated me; *
for they were too mighty for me.
19   They confronted me in the day of my disaster; *
but the LORD was my support.
20   He brought me out into an open place; *
he rescued me because he delighted in me.

Psalm 18:Part II Et retribuet mihi
21   The LORD rewarded me because of my righteous dealing; *
      because my hands were clean he rewarded me;
22   For I have kept the ways of the LORD *
      and have not offended against my God;
23   For all his judgments are before my eyes, *
      and his decrees I have not put away from me;
24   For I have been blameless with him *
      and have kept myself from iniquity;
25   Therefore the LORD rewarded me according to my righteous dealing, *
because of the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
26   With the faithful you show yourself faithful, O God; *
with the forthright you show yourself forthright.
27   With the pure you show yourself pure, *
but with the crooked you are wily.
28   You will save a lowly people, *
but you will humble the haughty eyes.
29   You, O LORD, are my lamp; *
my God, you make my darkness bright.
30   With you I will break down an enclosure; *
with the help of my God I will scale any wall.
31   As for God, his ways are perfect; the words of the LORD are tried in the fire; *
he is a shield to all who trust in him.
32   For who is God, but the LORD? *
who is the Rock, except our God?
33   It is God who girds me about with strength *
      and makes my way secure.
34   He makes me sure-footed like a deer *
and lets me stand firm on the heights.
35   He trains my hands for battle *
and my arms for bending even a bow of bronze.
36   You have given me your shield of victory; *
your right hand also sustains me; your loving care makes me great.
37   You lengthen my stride beneath me, *
and my ankles do not give way.
38   I pursue my enemies and overtake them; *
I will not turn back till I have destroyed them.
39   I strike them down, and they cannot rise; *
they fall defeated at my feet.
40   You have girded me with strength for the battle; *
you have cast down my adversaries beneath me; you have put my enemies to flight.
41   I destroy those who hate me; they cry out, but there is none to help them; *
they cry to the LORD, but he does not answer.
42   I beat them small like dust before the wind; *
I trample them like mud in the streets.
43   You deliver me from the strife of the peoples; *
you put me at the head of the nations.
44   A people I have not known shall serve me; no sooner shall they hear than they shall obey me; *
      strangers will cringe before me.
45   The foreign peoples will lose heart; *
they shall come trembling out of their strongholds.
46   The LORD lives! Blessed is my Rock! *
Exalted is the God of my salvation!
47   He is the God who gave me victory *
and cast down the peoples beneath me.
48   You rescued me from the fury of my enemies; you exalted me above those who rose against me; *
you saved me from my deadly foe.
49   Therefore will I extol you among the nations, O LORD, *
and sing praises to your Name.
50   He multiplies the victories of his king; *
he shows loving-kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants for ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:*
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

I will love thee, O LORD my strength.

I love you, O LORD my strength.

Psalm 68 Exsurgat Deus

But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; let them also be merry and joyful .

LET God arise, and let his enemies be scattered; *
let them also that hate him flee before him.
Like as the smoke vanisheth, so shalt thou drive them away; *
and like as wax melteth at the fire, so let the ungodly perish at the presence of God.
But let the righteous be glad, and rejoice before God; *
let them also be merry and joyful.
O sing unto God, and sing praises unto his Name; magnify him that rideth upon the heavens; *
praise him in his Name JAH, and rejoice before him.
He is a Father of the fatherless, and defendeth the cause of the widows; *
even God in his holy habitation.
He is the God that maketh men to be of one mind in an house, and bringeth the prisoners out of captivity; *
but letteth the runagates continue in scarceness.
O God, when thou wentest forth before the people; *
when thou wentest through the wilderness,
The earth shook, and the heavens dropped at the presence of God; *
even as Sinai also was moved at the presence of God, who is the God of Israel.
Thou, O God, sentest a gracious rain upon thine inheritance, *
and refreshedst it when it was weary.
10    Thy congregation shall dwell therein; *
for thou, O God, hast of thy goodness prepared for the poor.
11    The Lord gave the word; *
great was the company of women that bare the tidings.
12    Kings with their armies did flee, and were discomfited, *
and they of the household divided the spoil.
13    Though ye have lain among the sheep-folds, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove *
that is covered with silver wings, and her feathers like gold.
14    When the Almighty scattered kings for their sake, *
then were they as white as snow in Salmon.
15    As the hill of Bashan, so is God's hill; *
even an high hill, as the hill of Bashan.
16    Why mock ye so, ye high hills? this is God's hill, in the which it pleaseth him to dwell; *
yea, the LORD will abide in it for ever.
17    The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels; *
and the Lord is among them as in the holy place of Sinai.
18    Thou art gone up on high, thou hast led captivity captive, and received gifts from men; *
yea, even from thine enemies, that the LORD God might dwell among them.
19    Praised be the Lord daily, *
even the God who helpeth us, and poureth his benefits upon us.
20    He is our God, even the God of whom cometh salvation: *
GOD is the Lord, by whom we escape death.
21    God shall wound the head of his enemies, *
and the hairy scalp of such a one as goeth on still in his wickedness.
22    The Lord hath said, I will bring my people again, as I did from Bashan; *
mine own will I bring again, as I did sometime from the deep of the sea.
23    That thy foot may be dipped in the blood of thine enemies, *
and that the tongue of thy dogs may be red through the same.
24    It is well seen, O God, how thou goest; *
how thou, my God and King, goest in the sanctuary.
25    The singers go before, the minstrels follow after, *
in the midst of the damsels playing with the timbrels.
26    Give thanks unto God the Lord in the congregation, *
ye that are of the fountain of Israel.
27    There is little Benjamin their ruler, and the princes of Judah their council; *
the princes of Zebulon, and the princes of Naphthali.
28    Thy God hath sent forth strength for thee; *
stablish the thing, O God, that thou hast wrought in us,
29    For thy temple's sake at Jerusalem; *
so shall kings bring presents unto thee.
30    Rebuke thou the dragon and the bull, with the leaders of the heathen, so that they humbly bring pieces of silver; *
      scatter thou the peoples that delight in war;
31    Then shall the princes come out of Egypt; *
the Morians' land shall soon stretch out her hands unto God.
32    Sing unto God, O ye kingdoms of the earth; *
      O sing praises unto the Lord;
33    Who sitteth in the heavens over all, from the beginning: *
lo, he doth send out his voice; yea, and that a mighty voice.
34    Ascribe ye the power to God over Israel; *
his worship and strength is in the clouds.
35    O God, wonderful art thou in thy holy places: *
even the God of Israel, he will give strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; let them also be merry and joyful .

Psalm 68 Exsurgat Deus

But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; let them also be merry and joyful.

Let God arise, and let his enemies be scattered; *
let those who hate him flee before him.
Let them vanish like smoke when the wind drives it away; *
as the wax melts at the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; *
let them also be merry and joyful.
Sing to God, sing praises to his Name; exalt him who rides upon the heavens; *
YAHWEH is his Name, rejoice before him!
Father of orphans, defender of widows, *
      God in his holy habitation!
God gives the solitary a home and brings forth prisoners into freedom; *
but the rebels shall live in dry places.
O God, when you went forth before your people, *
when you marched through the wilderness,
The earth shook, and the skies poured down rain, at the presence of God, the God of Sinai, *
at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
You sent a gracious rain, O God, upon your inheritance; *
you refreshed the land when it was weary.
10   Your people found their home in it; *
in your goodness, O God, you have made provision for the poor.
11   The Lord gave the word; *
great was the company of women who bore the tidings:
12   Kings with their armies are fleeing away; *
the women at home are dividing the spoils.
13   Though you lingered among the sheepfolds, *
you shall be like a dove whose wings are covered with silver, whose feathers are like green gold.
14   When the Almighty scattered kings, *
it was like snow falling in Zalmon.
15   O mighty mountain, O hill of Bashan! *
O rugged mountain, O hill of Bashan!
16   Why do you look with envy, O rugged mountain, at the hill which God chose for his resting place? *
truly, the LORD will dwell there for ever.
17   The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of thousands; *
the Lord comes in holiness from Sinai.
18   You have gone up on high and led captivity captive; you have received gifts even from your enemies, *
that the LORD God might dwell among them.
19   Blessed be the Lord day by day, *
the God of our salvation, who bears our burdens.
20   He is our God, the God of our salvation; *
God is the LORD, by whom we escape death.
21   God shall crush the heads of his enemies, *
and the hairy scalp of those who go on still in their wickedness.
22   The Lord has said, "I will bring them back from Bashan; *
      I will bring them back from the depths of the sea;
23   That your foot may be dipped in blood, *
the tongues of your dogs in the blood of your enemies."
24   They see your procession, O God, *
your procession into the sanctuary, my God and my King.
25   The singers go before, musicians follow after, *
in the midst of maidens playing upon the hand-drums.
26   Bless God in the congregation; *
bless the LORD, you that are of the fountain of Israel.
27   There is Benjamin, least of the tribes, at the head; the princes of Judah in a company; *
and the princes of Zebulon and Naphtali.
28   Send forth your strength, O God; *
establish, O God, what you have wrought for us.
29   Kings shall bring gifts to you, *
for your temple's sake at Jerusalem.
30   Rebuke the wild beast of the reeds, *
and the peoples, a herd of wild bulls with its calves.
31   Trample down those who lust after silver; *
scatter the peoples that delight in war.
32   Let tribute be brought out of Egypt; *
let Ethiopia stretch out her hands to God.
33   Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth; *
      sing praises to the Lord.
34   He rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; *
he sends forth his voice, his mighty voice.
35   Ascribe power to God; *
his majesty is over Israel; his strength is in the skies.
36   How wonderful is God in his holy places! *
the God of Israel giving strength and power to his people! Blessed be God!

Amen.

But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; let them also be merry and joyful.

Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion. For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money. For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause. Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed. Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD. For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward.

Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake yourself from the dust, arise, O captive Jerusalem; loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion. For thus says the LORD: "You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money. For thus says the Lord GOD: My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing. Now therefore what have I here, says the LORD, seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Their rulers wail, says the LORD, and continually all the day my name is despised. Therefore my people shall know my name; therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here am I." How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." Hark, your watchmen lift up their voice, together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the LORD to Zion. Break forth together into singing, you waste places of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Depart, depart, go out thence, touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of her, purify yourselves, you who bear the vessels of the LORD. For you shall not go out in haste, and you shall not go in flight, for the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion! Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for the uncircumcised and the unclean shall enter you no more. Shake yourself from the dust, rise up, O captive Jerusalem; loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter Zion! For thus says the LORD: You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money. For thus says the Lord GOD: Long ago, my people went down into Egypt to reside there as aliens; the Assyrian, too, has oppressed them without cause. Now therefore what am I doing here, says the LORD, seeing that my people are taken away without cause? Their rulers howl, says the LORD, and continually, all day long, my name is despised. Therefore my people shall know my name; therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here am I. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." Listen! Your sentinels lift up their voices, together they sing for joy; for in plain sight they see the return of the LORD to Zion. Break forth together into singing, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of it, purify yourselves, you who carry the vessels of the LORD. For you shall not go out in haste, and you shall not go in flight; for the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

They rose and expelled him from their town; but he passed through their midst and went on his way.

The Second Song of Isaiah Quaerite Dominum
Isaiah 55:6-11

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found; *
call ye upon him while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way *
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the Lord
and he will have mercy upon him; *
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, *
neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, *
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven *
and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth,
And maketh it bring forth and bud, *
so that it may give seed to the sower,
and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; *
it shall not return unto me void;
But it shall accomplish that which I please, *
and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

They rose and expelled him from their town; but he passed through their midst and went on his way.

They rose and expelled him from their town; but he passed through their midst and went on his way.

The Second Song of Isaiah Quaerite Dominum
Isaiah 55:6-11

Seek the Lord while he wills to be found; *
call upon him when he draws near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways *
and the evil ones their thoughts;
And let them turn to the Lord, and he will have compassion, *
and to our God, for he will richly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, *
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, *
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as rain and snow fall from the heavens *
and return not again, but water the earth,
Bringing forth life and giving growth, *
seed for sowing and bread for eating,
So is my word that goes forth from my mouth; *
it will not return to me empty;
But it will accomplish that which I have purposed, *
and prosper in that for which I sent it.

They rose and expelled him from their town; but he passed through their midst and went on his way.

Luke 1:46-55

My soul doth magnify the Lord, *
and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.
For he hath regarded *
the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold from henceforth *
all generations shall call me blessed.
For he that is mighty hath magnified me, *
and holy is his Name.
And his mercy is on them that fear him *
throughout all generations.
He hath showed strength with his arm; *
he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat, *
and hath exalted the humble and meek.
He hath filled the hungry with good things, *
and the rich he hath sent empty away.
He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, *
as he promised to our forefathers,
Abraham and his seed for ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: *
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

A Reading from John 6:41-51

The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down from heaven." They said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, `I have come down from heaven'?" Jesus answered them, "Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, `And they shall all be taught by God.' Every one who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that any one has seen the Father except him who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh."

Then the Jews began to complain about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven." They were saying, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" Jesus answered them, "Do not complain among yourselves. No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."

Hymn: Splendor Paterne Glorie

Meter: LM 82H: 5

O splendor of God's glory bright,
O Thou that bringest light from light;
O Light of light, light's living spring,
O day, all days illumining.

O Thou true Sun, on us Thy glance
Let fall in royal radiance;
The Spirit's sanctifying beam
Upon our earthly senses stream.

The Father, too, our prayers implore,
Father of glory evermore;
The Father of all grace and might,
To banish sin from our delight.

To guide whate'er we nobly do,
With love all envy to subdue;
To make ill fortune turn to fair,
And give us grace our wrongs to bear.

Our mind be in His keeping placed
Our body true to Him and chaste,
Where only faith her fire shall feed,
To burn the tares of Satan's seed.

And Christ to us for food shall be,
From Him our drink that welleth free,
The Spirit's wine, that maketh whole,
And, mocking not, exalts the soul.

Rejoicing may this day go hence;
Like virgin dawn our innocence,
Like fiery noon our faith appear,
Nor known the gloom of twilight drear.

Morn in her rosy car is borne;
Let Him come forth our perfect morn,
The Word in God the Father one,
The Father perfect in the Son.

All laud to God the Father be;
All praise, eternal Son, to Thee;
All glory, as is ever meet,
To God the holy Paraclete.

V. Of the increase of his government.
R. And of his peace there shall be no end.

For All Sorts and Conditions [A form of general intercession] [+][-]

O God, the creator and preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldest be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for thy holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to thy fatherly goodness all those who are in any ways afflicted or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; [especially those for whom our prayers are desired]; that it may please thee to comfort and relieve them according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

O God, the creator and preserver of all humanity, we humbly beseech you on behalf of all sorts and conditions of people; that you would be pleased to make your ways known to them, your saving health to all nations. Especially, we pray for your holy Church across the world; that it may be guided and governed by your good Spirit, so that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to your fatherly goodness all those who are in any ways afflicted or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; [especially those for whom our prayers are desired]; that it may please you to comfort and relieve them according to their various needs, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we ask for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

The General Thanksgiving [+][-]

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we thine unworthy servants
do give thee most humble and hearty thanks
for all thy goodness and loving kindness
to us and to all men.
We bless thee for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for thine inestimable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ,
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.

And, we beseech thee,
give us that due sense of all thy mercies,
that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful;
and that we show forth thy praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to thy service,
and by walking before thee
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost,
be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.

And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to your service,
and by walking before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

A Prayer of St. Chrysostom [+][-]

Almighty God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication unto thee, and hast promised through thy well beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name thou wilt be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.

Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14
