====ORDINARY OF PRIME==== <small><span class="rubric">The Triple Prayer is always said, and afterwards the Opening Versicles, as prescribed in Common Forms. And then:</span></small> =====The Hymn===== <small><span class="rubric">The following Hymn, unless the Proper direct its omission, is used daily, except for its Ending, which as noted below is sometimes changed by the use of a Proper Doxology.</span> <span class="rubric">Hymn.</span> <em>Jam lucis orto sidere.</em><br /><span class="rubric dropcap">N</span>OW that the daylight fills the sky, <br />We lift our hearts to God on high, <br />That he, in all we do or say,<br />Would keep us free from harm today. Would guard our hearts and tongues from strife;<br />From anger's din would hide our life; <br />From all ill sights would turn our eyes; <br />Would close our ears from vanities: Would keep our inmost conscience pure; <br />Our souls from folly would secure; <br />Would bid us check the pride of sense <br />With due and holy abstinence. Amen. <span class="rubric">NOTE, That when (as above) a Hymn has an Ending entitled Ordinary Ending or Doxology, then for such an Ending there is substituted the Proper Doxology, (i.e., one of the nine Endings given in the Table of Proper Doxologies in Common Forms,) whenever the Proper or the Common or the aforesaid</span></small> [page A26b] <small><span class="rubric">Table directs such a substitution to be made. And NOTE further, That during any Ending which is labelled as a </span>Doxology, <span class="rubric">the whole Choir is to make a profound reverence up to the word</span> Amen. <span class="rubric">As to Endings which are true Doxologies, usage varies somewhat. But it is customary to make at least such a reverence as is made at the Sacred Name of our Lord whenever in the Ending of any Breviary Hymn whatsoever, the word Trinity is mentioned, or the Names of all Three Divine Persons are mentioned continuously, (no matter in what order), in which latter case the inclination is continuous from the mention of the first Name until the last Name has been pronounced.</span></small> =====The Psalms with Antiphon===== <small><span class="rubric">After the Hymn, immediately before the first Psalm, the appropriate Ant. is said as far as the dagger (†), and then are said three Psalms, according to the Office of the day; but when Lauds 2 is used in the Office for the day, the Psalm or Psalms therein omitted from Lauds should always be transferred to Prime of the same day, according to the arrangement given in the Psalter for such cases; and after the last Psalm of Prime, (or in the Sunday Office, after the Athanasian Creed,when it is said,) the Ant. is repeated entire.</span></small> ------------------------- ======Through the Year====== <small><span class="rubric">On ordinary Sundays, except in privileged Octaves, the Ant. is from the Psalter.</span> <span class="rubric">On Pre-Lenten Sundays the Ant. is from the Proper.</span> <span class="rubric">On all Ferias through the year, and from Ash Wednesday through the following Saturday, the Ant. is from the current weekday in the Psalter.</span></small> ======In Advent====== <small><span class="rubric">On Sundays in Advent the Ant. is the first Ant. of Lauds of the current Sunday, from the Proper.</span> <span class="rubric">On Ferias in Advent until Sapientiatide, the Ant. is the first of Lauds of the preceding Sunday, but during Sapientiatide,</span></small> [page A27a] <small><span class="rubric">the Ant. is from Lauds of the current Feria; as in the Proper.</span> <span class="rubric">In the Office of the Season of Advent (even if an Oct. or Feast of our Lady be commemorated in the said Office of the Season) and likewise in the Office of a Saint whose Feast is observed during Advent, in the Br. ℟ is said daily the ℣.</span> Thou that art about to come into the world. <span class="rubric">However, in the Office of any Feast of our Lady during Advent, the proper ℣ is used; and the same is true of the proper Doxology; but these are never used in the Office of the Season of Advent when only a Commem. is made of our Lady.</span></small> ======In Lent====== <small><span class="rubric">On Sundays in Lent, the Ant. is from the Proper.</span> <span class="rubric">On Ferias from the Monday after the I Sunday in Lent, is said daily, as follows:</span></small> <span class="rubric">Ant.</span> As I live, saith the Lord God, † I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, * but rather that he turn from his evil way and live. ======In Passiontide====== <small><span class="rubric">On Passion Sunday and Palm Sunday, the Ant. is from the Proper.</span> <span class="rubric">On all Ferias in Passion Week, the following Ant. is said:</span></small> <span class="rubric">Ant.</span> The ungodly † are minded to do me some mischief, * and my Heart is disquieted within me. <small><span class="rubric">On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Holy Week, the Ant. is the first of Lauds of the current Feria, from the Proper.</span></small> ======In Eastertide====== <small><span class="rubric">On Sundays and Ferias from Low Sunday through None of the Vigil of the Ascension, the Ant. at Prime, (and also at Terce, Sext, None, and Compline) is said from the Psalter, i.e., Ant. It is also said in the Eastertide Office of a Saint when the weekday Psalms are used.</span> <span class="rubric">And after the Ant. is said</span></small> =====The Little Chapter===== <small><span class="rubric">On all Sundays (even if transferred or anticipated), on privileged Vigils, on Feasts, during Octaves, andnhe Office of our Lady on Saturday, as well as on Ferias in Eastertide, the following is said:</span></small> <span class="rubric">Chapter 1.
